Population pyramids
What shape type is this pyramid?
1. Christmas tree
2. Christmas tree
What does the shape say about the distribution of the population?
1. There are a lot of younger and middle aged people.
2. There are a lot of younger and middle aged people.
Which age group has the highest percentage of the population?
1. Ages 5-9 have the largest population percentage.
2. 0-4 has the highest population percentage.
Which age group has the lowest percentage of the population?
1. Ages 75-79 have the lowest population percentage.
2. The older age range around 90-94 has the lowest percentage.
Are there any usual/interesting anomalies in the pyramid?
1. There is a huge spike in population percentage at ages 5-9 but then levels off.
2. There are a lot of changes during 5-19 in terms of the population percentage.
Both pyramids show the overturning of age ranges. They both have Christmas tree shapes since there has been a baby boom and the older generation is starting to dwindle away. The middle generation has an average population percentage since the younger generation is aging. As people age, the older generation decreases since most are passing away. I suspect that there will continue to be a Christmas tree shape with an increase of younger generations and a decrease of older generations.
